Please reconsider kindergarten teacher proposal

I have had the joy of having my child in a RWE Kindergarten class this year. I should say I have had the joy of having my child in three kindergarten classes. These three women have created the most wonderful kindergarten team I have ever seen. When I heard that two teachers were being unnecessarily reassigned next year, I was devastated! Why would the school district feel this is an appropriate move? I would like to point out some reasons why I feel this is a disastrous move.

First, creating a team is hard work. There can be conflict of personalities, methods of teaching and the ability to work together effectively. These three women have amazed me with their ability to bring the best out in each other and support one another. There is not backbiting or frustration (although I am sure frustrations occur) but these ladies do not let on to such occasions. I have seen how they work to provide the best team they can be to educate all of the kindergartners at RWE.

Second, learning a grade takes effort and is not easily replaced. Just because teachers are educated in the wide span of Elementary, Middle and High School areas, does not mean all are equipped or effective in every grade. As I am sure you are aware, each age brings about different challenges and growth expectations. To continually move teachers from grade to grade does little to help foster strong ties between student and teacher. We should be encouraging such dedication to knowing and becoming familiar with a specific grade and age group, especially Kindergarten.

Third, Kindergarten is a students first introduction to the full day, all work little play school regime. It is important to have teachers who are aware of this and do their due diligence to create an atmosphere of fun while learning. These three teachers have proven time and time again that school is to be enjoyed while worked. I have seen the way their students are still energetic and eager to return day after day. This is not an easy feat and I am so appreciative and grateful for such a Kindergarten team.

Fourth, lastly and most importantly, these Kindergarten teachers treat all students as their own. I love knowing that I can approach any of these ladies with any questions or concerns about my child. I know he is safe in their care as a devoted Kindergarten team. To remove that from the system would be a real tragedy and could affect multiple future classes of students. Children are very aware of those around them and when they sense a cohesion among teachers there is a trust and security that allows them to feel safe to try new things and become better learners.

I wholeheartedly encourage those in power to reconsider the proposed action of separating this team. Our children deserve the best and they are creating it.
