The Thermopolis Town Council held a special meeting on February 25 to review a motion from the Hot Springs County Rural Water Joint Powers Board (HSCRWJPB) on February 20. Representing the town, Jim Jeunehomme wanted the entire council to be informed by Water Development Project Manager George Moser about their recommendation.
The HSCRWJPB wanted to submit their application to the Wyoming Water Development Commission by the March 1 deadline to drill a test well at Yankee Dome. This option was one of two from Moser’s recent recommendation. The other option was to build a new water treatment plant on the existing site with a new intake.
Mayor Adam Estenson and a full council spent over an hour discussing with Moser about the background and data of the situation. After deliberation and asking a variety of questions to Moser, Assistant to the Mayor Jeunehomme asked for a vote to guide him at the next HSCRWJPB meeting. The council voted three in favor of the Town agreeing to move forward with the application for WWDC well drilling in Yankee Dome. Mayor Estenton, Councilmember Rachel Hughes and Dusty Lewis were for, and Councilmember Tony Larson and John Dorman, Sr. were against.
The following day, on February 26, the HSCRWJPB held a special meeting. All members were present. They included Hot Springs County, the Town of Thermopolis, East Thermopolis, South Thermopolis Water District, and Owl Creek Water District.
The HSCRWJPB moved to approve the Resolution 25-1, A Resolution Authorizing the Submittal of an Application to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for the Funding of a Level II Well Project. The motion passed unanimously.
