As a concerned citizen, I understand that the decision is out about the shooting of a mentally ill person in Thermopolis that resulted in death.
Patrick LeBrun wrote the decision, but there’s several things that were left out.
I don’t understand why there was so many shots fired even when the victim was still on the ground and couldn’t do anything.
I also don’t understand why other methods weren’t used to detain Jared, who was a long time resident of Thermopolis and graduated from the high school there with virtually no record of criminal activity.
I think the public deserves to know what is going on with the Thermopolis Police Department. Such as how much training they had, where they came from and if mental or domestic abuse was included in that training.
There are ways such as other officers called from the football game that night or used bean bags or the fire truck hoses.
I don’t think this death had to happen and I don’t want to see it happening again, anywhere in the USA again. I think there’s questions that need to be addressed. If you agree or disagree please let the editor of the paper know. Thank you.
Respectfully, John E. Gottula
