On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.
Correction
Emmy Hergert is a former teacher at Thermopolis Middle School. She is no longer affiliated with TMS. Incorrect information was included in a press release. We apologize for the error.
Eighth graders Lauren Teeples (A honor roll) and Tanner Delay (A/B honor roll) were inadvertently left off the Thermopolis Middle School honor roll list. We apologize for the error.

Monday, Jan. 20
2:16 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.
6:53 p.m. Report of a vehicle with its hazard lights on parked on Bureau of Land Management property. Deputies searched the area but did not locate a vehicle.
Tuesday, Jan. 21
8:46 p.m. K9 Deputy agency assist for Wyoming Highway Patrol and Washakie County Sheriff’s Office.
Wednesday, Jan. 22
1:57 p.m. Stanley Jacob Kehler, 68, was arrested for alleged probation revocation.
8:05 p.m. Deputy’s arrested Juanita Sanchez, 46, in the 200 block of West 4th Street in Kirby, Wyo., on an active bench warrant out of Hot Springs County for alleged failure to appear bond revocation. Her original charges were for a dog attacking a person in a vicious manner on June 5, 2024.

4:17 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

7:01 a.m. Agency assist for the police department and Highway Patrol.
Saturday, Jan. 25
9:42 p.m. Request for a welfare check on children at the request of their other parents. Everything appeared well with the children.
Sunday, Jan. 26
12:49 p.m. Deputies performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration. The vehicle was found to not be legally titled after being sold. The new owner is working on solving their title issues.
4:36 p.m. Report of possible vandalism on train tracks. Deputies found damage to the tracks that appeared to have been caused naturally. BNSF responded to fix the damages.
Police Department
Monday, Jan. 20
3:32 a.m. Police responded to a business in the 700 block Shoshoni Street, for the report of a burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers did not see any evidence of forced entry. All doors were checked and were found to be secured, and no one was seen inside. Store management was contacted, and a message was left.
2:16 p.m. Police responded to a restaurant located in the 900 block of Shoshoni Street for the report of a citizen dispute. The dispute was between an employee and a customer regarding customer service. This involved two adult males. Both individuals were contacted and no citations were issued.
6:06 p.m. Report of a 911 hang-up. Police contacted an adult male who said that one of his kids must have called by accident. Police checked to make sure everyone was okay, and all seemed fine.
Tuesday, Jan. 21
3:52 p.m. Report of a male allegedly behaving strangely and entering cars as school was letting out. Officers responded and Brandon Boren, 39, was arrested for alleged breach of peace and criminal entry.
5:56 p.m. Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 500 block of Park Street. A male driver struck the rear of a vehicle belonging to a female from Riverton, Wyo. No one was injured, and roadway conditions appeared to be a contributing factor. A report was created.
Thursday, Jan. 23
10:08 a.m. Police were contacted by a female victim regarding harassment by a male. Police learned this incident occurred in Worland, Wyo., and the male subject also lived in Worland, Wyo. Police referred the female to the Worland Police for further assistance. A police report was taken.
1:01 p.m. Extra patrol was requested by a local business owner.
1:16 p.m. Agency assist for Emergency Medical Services.
4:17 p.m. Police effected a motor vehicle stop on a semi-truck and a fully loaded hay trailer for speeding in the 1400 block of Broadway. Driver Willie James Lovett Jr, 31, of Gadsden, Ala., was arrested for allegedly driving while under suspension for DUI, interference with a peace officer, improper use of a driver’s license and speeding. The vehicle was turned over to his father, who was operating as co-driver.
Friday, Jan. 24
12:16 p.m. Police responded to a single vehicle crash with a deer on US Highway 20 at Hospital Hill. The driver was not injured, and a report was created.
12:44 p.m. Police responded to Ralph Witters Elementary School for the report of children not picked up by their parents. The parents eventually picked up their children and advised the police that they had forgotten that Fridays were half school days.
3:06 p.m. Police responded to the 600 block of Broadway for the report of a two-vehicle crash. A male driver backed his vehicle into the rear of a parked vehicle belonging to a female. No one was injured. A crash report was created.
4:36 p.m. A property-watch was requested for a local residential home.
Saturday, Jan. 25
9:58 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Services. A urinalysis (UA) was administered on a male. The UA test showed negative for the presence of drugs and alcohol.
Sunday, Jan. 26
4:10 p.m. Police responded to 1200 Block of Odell Ave. to perform a property watch on a house. Everything was secure and there were no fresh foot prints in the snow around the house.
Circuit Court
Andrii Hrabivskyi, driving while under the influence of alcohol, equal to or greater than .08%, first offense within 10 years, 90 days jail, 88 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $720, and open container alcohol/moving vehicle, first offense, fees and fines $140, and not driving vehicle within single lane, fees and fines, $90.
Robert L. Richter, II, driving while under the influence of alcohol, equal to or greater than .08% within two hours of driving, third offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 150 days suspended, three years supervised probation, fees and fines $970, and driving without interlock device: licensed under article, first offense, seven days jail, fees and fines $270.
Aiden R. Sanders, unlawfully wearing or carrying a concealed weapon, first offense, 180 days jail, 177 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $320.
Lisa Marie Riggs, possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less, 180 days jail, 176 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $220, and expired temporary license permit/improper registration, fees and fines $140, and failure to provide proof of liability insurance, fees and fines $560.
