Senior District holds meeting

On January 14, the Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Service District held their monthly meeting at the Annex building. Overall, this month’s meeting was an organizational function where they voted on accepting their bylaws and reviewed policy & procedures, calendar, grant policy & procedures and service contract.

During the meeting, the board voted and passed the approval to state in their bylaws that the Senior District will not accept gifts, donations or endowments and will only use tax dollars for their functions. During their discussion, they said that any of these monetary gifts should get given to the Senior Center or the Golden Age Club.

The board also voted and passed the approval of the appointment of Curtis Cheney to Vice Chair. Regarding services contracts, possibly with the Senior Center, they tabled that matter to know more from legal advisors.

The Senior Citizen Service District was recently formed by the voters of Hot Springs County in the recent election for the purpose of gaining tax revenue to help the local senior population. They will not start receiving tax revenue until November 2025. The Hot Springs County Commissioners will account for the district in their budget in July of this year. The Senior District will receive up to two mills.

The Hot Springs County Senior Citizen Service District Trustees are Ray Shaffer, Chairman; Curtis Cheney, Vice Chair; Kathy Sorensen, Secretary; Kim Black, Treasurer; Marvin G. Nielson, Trustee.
