Lady Cat wrestlers place sixth

The Lady Cats Wrestlers traveled to Douglas last weekend to compete at the annual Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament. Thirty schools from four states were represented at the event. With just five wrestlers on the team, the Lady Cats placed four competitors, and finished the tournament in Sixth Place - with 104.5 team points.

Sophomore, Lilly Quintanilla, continued her winning ways – dominating her way through the bracket, pinning all four of her opponents, and taking another championship in her weight class. “In the Championship Match, Lilly met Bristol Prado, of Chadron, Neb. Lilly controlled the entire match, ending it in the Second Period, with a late drop to a pin,” said coach Travis McDermott.

In another quality outing, junior, Alix Sorensen, pinned her way to her 3rd consecutive championship match. “She came up a bit short in the championship, losing to Anderson of Sheridan, to make her the runner-up.”

Sophomore, Summer Galovich, had some of her best matches ever – battling her way back through a tough bracket, after losing her first match. “Summer had to win five in a row in the consolation rounds to bring home a fourth place finish.”

Freshman, Izzy Hetzel, continued her impressive freshman season, by also getting a fourth place finish. Izzy lost to Shoshoni’s Arnold twice, but dominated all of her other matches, by either a pin or technical fall.

Sophomore, Ava Dafoe, was back on the mats, after suffering an injury early in the season. “Ava came up one match short of placing, but had an impressive first tournament of the year, getting a couple of wins by pin.”

“The ladies are an impressive bunch, who are intense competitors, who are developing their skills quickly, and all have shown that they are some of the top wrestlers in the state,” said McDermott.

The Lady Cats will have a home Dual against Glenrock on Thursday at 6 pm, and will then be in Green River for a week-end event.
