At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Thursday January 9, the Thermopolis Fire Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Clark Street for a reported structure fire with a possible trapped person. Firefighters arrived to find a residence with active fire from the front window and door.
Firefighters forced entry through the front door and attacked the fire, extinguishing the flames and keeping the active fire damage contained to the front living room area. Fire crews conducted a search of the home and located one adult victim who had unfortunately succumbed to smoke inhalation. The fire scene was secured, and the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to conduct a fire investigation.
Firefighters responded to the scene with five units: three engines, one water tender, and a support truck. There were no reported injuries to the first responders. Fire crews were assisted by the Mortimore Ambulance Service, the Thermopolis Police Department, and the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Thermopolis Fire Department reminds everyone that a working smoke alarm in all lying and working spaces will help to make a safe escape by providing early warning. Also, the more important action in any structure fire is to get out and stay out.
