Brandon Deromedi named Coach of the Year

The Wyoming Coaches Association have announced the winners of the fall sports season Coach of the Year awards. The prestigious awards go to those coaches who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and determination in their individual sports.

For the sixth time, in as many years, Hot Springs County High School Golf Coach, Brandon Deromedi, was again named as “Coach of the Year” for the Fall 2A Boys Golf Season.

Coach Deromedi hails from Worland, and has been teaching Physical Education and Health in Thermopolis for thirteen years. Brandon has served as the Athletic Director at the High School for 11 years, and as AD at the Middle School for 12 years. He has headed the golf team at Hot Springs County High School for six years, and has guided the Cats and Lady Cats to six State Team Championships – five for the Cats, and one for the Lady Cats.

Last year, Coach Deromedi led the Lady Cats to their first State Championship in Newcastle. While this past spring, the Lady Cats followed up by winning the Spring Tournament at Torrington.

Not to be outdone, the Bobcats Golf Team achieved their own State Championship in Sheridan last fall. In the past seven years, that brings to six, the number of State Golf Championships Hot Springs County High School can claim. The Lady Cats placed three players in the top 10 in Sheridan, and finished the State Tournament in Second Place.

During Coach Deromedi’s tenure as Golf Coach, Hot Springs High School has brought home six Individual State Champions in golf - with the State Championship won last fall by Senior, Hayden Overfield. Coach also guided five golfers from the Bobcats and Lady Cats teams to be named to the All-State list this year: Lilly Johnson, Madison Shaffer, Ruth Needham, Trevin Shaffer, and Hayden Overfield.

When asked about the award, Coach Deromedi commented: “I am appreciative of the Award, but the majority of the credit, obviously, goes to the players. Without their great effort and determination, a coach cannot even qualify to be considered for the Award.”

All “Coach of the Year” awardees will be recognized at the WCA Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet - which will be held in Casper in July of this year.
