Lady Cat wrestlers face challenges in Worland

The Lady Cats Wrestlers were in Worland last weekend to compete at the Battle in the Big Horns Tournament. Between matching up against some very talented competitors, and being short staffed due to illness/injury, the Lady Cats faced some real adversity in the two-day event.

Outstanding sophomore Lilly Quintanilla did not compete, as she was battling illness. Similarly, sophomore, Ava Dafoe, did not compete, as she is in the process of recovering from a lower body injury. Thus, the already small team was down to just three wrestlers to take to the mats.

Freshman Izzy Hetzel had some success against some tough competition. Coach, Travis McDermot said, “Our three wrestlers ran into some tough competition but each of them came to compete. Izzy ended up taking fourth place in her weight class, with a couple of losses to some experienced high school wrestlers. She held her own and was in each match that she lost.”

“Sophomore Summer Galovich had a tough weekend, with some close matches, but she just couldn’t break out in the bracket rounds and get herself into the place rounds.”

“Junior Alix Sorensen wrestled really tough to a gain a second place finish, losing in the championship round to a familiar foe from Rock Springs.”

“The girls just need to develop a strong trust in what they are good at and to execute the plan,” said coach McDermott.

The Lady Cats are now off for their well-earned holiday break, and will travel to compete at Douglas after the first of the year.
