Following on the heels of their outstanding performance at regionals in Thermopolis, nine members of the Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team were in Douglas on December 15 to compete in the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association (WAWA) Middle School Wrestling Championships. With thirty-nine teams in attendance, the competition was both stellar, and grueling.
This tournament serves as the qualifier for athletes to represent the state of Wyoming at the upcoming Heartland National Duels, which will be held in Council Bluffs, Iowa in March of 2025. Wrestlers placing first or second in their weight classes in Douglas will be invited to compete in Council Bluffs, where over one hundred teams from around the country will pit their skills.
Standout Lady Cats Hailey Robinson, Briar Lahoe and Jesalyn Blair, all who had first place finishes at regionals, competed well at the Douglas event. Briar Lahoe and Jesalyn Blair each finished in second place in their weight classes, while Hailey Robinson finished the Tournament in first place and was named a State Champion.
Six Bobcats competed in Douglas. Tanner Delay placed second in the 140 lbs. class (he was first at regionals); Tanner Myers finished fourth at 95 lbs. (he was third at regionals); and Ryker Sayler finished in fifth place at 102 lbs. (he was second at regionals).
