Being informed and involved is so important in our community. I’m going to touch on things you may not have heard about recently or at all. We are constantly reminded – until someone has a need or comes through the door, they don’t know what we do or all the services we offer daily. It takes every entity and partnership we have to make things all work.
Following our recent Veteran’s Day lunch, we need your help to spread the word to veterans and their families. Please bring your military picture for our Wall of Valor here at the center. When we began, we had no idea how many pictures we would receive. I am thrilled to report, as of this writing we have 102 wonderful photos on our wall. We have by no means reached all the veterans in our community. Please help us. If you have never seen the Wall of Valor, please drop by. We have multiple veterans from multiple families, and it is an honor to have their photos hanging in our Center. Howard Palmer won our Veterans Day Scattered Heart quilt in our recent giveaway.
Our Social Security Kiosk is invaluable for members of our community. If anyone has the need to talk to Social Security for whatever reason, that can be accomplished every Friday from 1-2:30 p.m. here at the Center. The Kiosk is available on a first come, first serve basis and is available to anyone that needs help, not just senior citizens.
Medicare D (prescription drug) open enrollment is in full swing. There are many changes this year. Please check your drug plans. Call the center (864-2151) today for your appointment with Bob or Sara if you need assistance. It’s important this year to check. January 1 when new plans take effect is too late. December 7 is the final day to review and change your drug plan.
Finally, yes, we are your Senior Center, but intergenerational participation is great. Age 60 and over are the rules for some programs here, but not all. We have public transportation with a suggested donation is $2/ride one way. Non-seniors pay a minimal cost for activities our grants won’t pay for (art supplies for example) but it is perfectly fine for non-seniors to be a guest of a senior (60 and over) for a lunch. No one must be 60 and over to attend our events and happenings. Our fundraisers, motorcoach trips, Saturday night bingo, etc. are open to all and everyone is welcome to participate.
Call the HSC Senior Center at 864-2151 to get more information on any of their programs.
