Historical Society meeting presentation

Tony Abstetar will be presenting the featured program at the Saturday, Nov. 9 Hot Springs County HIstorical Society meeting. The meeting begins at 2 p.m. with the program to follow. From Flying Door Gunner to Flying with Honor is the name of Abstetar’s program. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served. November library events

The Hot Springs County Library is hosting a variety of activities and events during the month of November. The Hot City Book Club is meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 8 a string art class will be held at 1 p.m. for youth in grades 5-8. Limited space is available so sign up prior to class. Dinner and movie will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. Amy Lea, with SBA will be at the library on Nov. 19. November 25 bring a friend and play cribbage from 4-6 p.m. For more information, call the library at 864-3104.

Veterans Day activities

A number of activities will be held on Monday, November 11 to honor our veterans. The Memorial Avenue of Flags will be going up at Monument Hill Cemetery at 7 a.m. and they will be lowered at 5 p.m. Volunteers are appreciated. A flag raising ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the flagpole located at the main entrance of Hot Springs Health. Thermopolis Middle School will be honoring local veterals at an assembly held at the school audtiorium at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., a Veterans Day Service will be held at VFW Post 2281, 302 Broadway to honor all veterans. That evening, veterans and their families are invited to dinner at the VFW beginning at 6 p.m.

Local artists featured at Worland gift store

Sagebrush Artisans, the artist guild in the Big Horn Basin, will open its second annual pop-up gift shop on Saturday, Nov. 9, featuring local artists’ work. For November and December, the store will be filled with art from many of its 40+ members. Featured artists will include Marcia Nelson with her glass creations of ornaments and stand-alone pieces; Diana Scranton with her intricate beadwork and jewelry; Teri Gergen with her tote bags, magnets, headbands and paintings; Sabrina Annand of the Happy Hippy will feature children’s toys, jewelry, cards and other hand-made art; Cheri Shelp and Carolyn Wostenberg will have textiles with hand-woven dish towels, table runners, linens, shawls, and more; Jessica Kuhn will have pottery for kitchen and decorative uses; Sue McCann has her needle-felting wall-hangings and paintings; Sarah Miller has her block-print designs; and Cal Fulfer will feature his copper pieces and other artworks; and there will be many paintings from visual artists in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel from Belinda Daugherty, Brenda Trippel, Sherry Stottler, Gayle Phipps and Joy Lyman. The store is located adjacent to “The Other Store” Café at 1314 Big Horn Avenue in Worland and will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
