Cooper seeks reelection for Senator District 20 seat

Ed Cooper (R) from Ten Sleep is the sonly candidate on the general ballot running the State Senator District # 20 seat.

The information included here is what he presented during the Chamber of Commerce hosted candidate forum held in early October.

Ed Cooper:

I think I’ve met a lot of you. I’m Ed Cooper. I live over in Ten Sleep. I was born right over here on hospital hill many years ago. Basically I spent my entire life right here in the southern Big Horn Basin. My family has been involved in agriculture here since 1906 when they first came here. I’ve been involved with agriculture and the oil and gas business for the last 53 years. So, I’ve been here a while. I know the country, I know the people.

The oil and gas business has taken me all over the world. I’ve been to Siberia when it was still the Soviet Union. I’ve worked, as far as North America, as far south as South America. I’ve been to many places and seen the things that are wrong with the world. So that was a pretty big incentive for me to get involved in politics as the opportunity that came to me four years ago. So, I’m running for my second term.

A lot of things have happened in my life right now. We’ve got some fabulous opportunities for minerals coming toward us, with rare earth, with nuclear. We’re doing everything we can to keep coal online because of the natural gas opportunities coming up. So even though the prices are down right now, we have a lot of really great opportunities coming toward us on the mineral side. I serve on the minerals committee, and I’m very proud to do so. I’m also chair the judiciary committee.  That’s been a real learning experience for me. But it’s been a great experience.

I serve on the counsel resource trust committee, which is the part of the public money arm of the Wyoming Wildlife Natural Resource Trust Fund. We have a lot of projects going on around the state with wildlife habitat. We’ve done a lot of them right here at home. We did a big river bank project here east of town.
