Stewart charged with alleged theft and forgery from FFA Alumni

Hot Springs County resident Cody Dyan Stewart, 35, was arrested last Friday and charged with one count of alleged felony theft and eleven counts of alleged felony forgery.

On Thursday, October 17, the Thermopolis Police Department Chief Pat Cornwell met with members of the Thermopolis High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Alumni Association. They reported to Cornwell that they believed the treasurer of the organization had allegedly taken approximately $21,000.00 from the organization over the last three years. Stewart allegedly forged her signature and initials on financial documents and also altered amounts.

Stewart’s initial court appearance was Monday. Judge Joseph Darrah, of Park County, was the presiding judge. Kelly Owen, Deputy Hot Springs County Attorney, represented the state during the bond hearing. Stewart is being represented by attorney Christopher King.

At the Monday bond hearing in Hot Springs County Circuit Court, after negotiations with the attorneys, Judge Darrah of Park County set Stewart’s bond as a $10,000 cash surety bond. Conditions will include travel restricted to State or Wyoming, must obey federal, state, and local laws, appear in court when required, notify court and attorney of any change of address.

Stewart is set to appear in front of the court next for a preliminary hearing on October 30 at 3 p.m. Stewart, through a bail bonds agent, was able to post bond Monday afternoon and was released.
