On Sunday, Oct. 20, Par 6 Indoor Golf held their grand opening in addition the five-year anniversary of P6 Station Pizzeria was celebrated.
Owner Ryan Shaffer explained why he decided to create this sporting opportunity. He said, "In Wyoming, we don't have a lot of months to play golf. My older two kids are on the golf team and I help volunteer with the golf team. If we want to get better, if we want to have more opportunities for these kids to go play in college or just to keep their swing, then we need something in the winter because it's not very fun to go and just hit into a net at your house or at the gym. We've taken our kids to some simulators. Why don't you put something in that is a benefit to them as well? That was the original thought of it. Now we have something in the winter."
The simulator reads your ball and examines how you hit it, whether you hit from behind, the side or even cutting it. Then it will make your ball do that on the simulator's screen.
Shaffer added about the simulator, "This just gives so much information. We're really hoping that people can come in. And if you want to get better, even if you haven't played golf, it can still be an enjoyable thing. It will show you how far you hit it. If you're one of those guys that needs to know every single data point, it'll give you every single data point. And so our hope is we get some guys to help us and do some lessons."
There are a variety of games you can play, such as the Riverwalk Skills Challenge. It has anything from putt putt to breaking glass. The game has nine panes of glass you can try to break. Also, there is a Skee ball game and a field goal game where you try to hit the ball from different distances. Players can even try to land their ball on an island hole surrounded by water.
Shaffer said that in these types of games it is important for the kids to enjoy the sport and still get better at it.
Construction began about one year ago with the building itself arriving, but they had to wait until this spring to really finish the installation. In August, they tested the simulator with their employees to make sure it was operating well and that they knew how to run it for customers. The high school golf team also got introduced to the simulator.
The cost to play is $15 for every 30 minutes or $30 for one hour. There are two simulator bays available. You can play by yourself or with others.
