In their final race before the conference finals, the Hot Springs County High School Cross Country Team competed in the Powell Invitational on Thursday, October 10. In one of the largest events of the season, teams from eleven schools were at the Powell Golf Course to compete.
Outstanding senior, Trajn Swalstad of Worland won the boys race, running a time of 15:40.14, leading the Worland Warriors to the team championship, with a combined score of 37.
Kinley Cooley of Powell was the girls champion, with a time of 18:26.80. The team from Cody topped the girls team standings.
The Bobcats had seven runners entered. Junior, Jadeth Elder, finished in 12th place, with a time of 17:05.16. Junior, Cole Keller, ran 18:13.39; freshman, Ammon Gevas, ran 18:30.65; freshman, Trevin Shaffer ran 19:36.73; sophomore, Teancum Gevas, ran 19:38.39; freshman, Clayton Keller ran a 22:09.00; and sophomore, Alec Martinez, had a time of 22:47.90. The Cats finished in 7th place, with a combined score of 155.
Commenting on the event, coach Stephanie Metz stated, “Everyone had good personal times in Powell, and it was good preparation for the upcoming regionals.”
The Bobcats will play host to the conference final on Friday, October 18. The event will be held at the Thermopolis Golf Course, and will see teams from as many as seven regional schools, including the very competitive teams from the Wyoming Indian School, and from Burlington.
The State Championship will be held in Cheyenne on October 26.
