The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats football team faced off with the Bulldogs in Lovell last Friday. After coming away with an hard-fought win in Kemmerer the week before, the Cats were looking to extend a win streak. The Bulldogs, however, had other plans.
After going down 13 to nothing in the first quarter, the Cats came roaring back, to put up two touch-downs in the second period, and were up 14 to 13 with the halftime clock about to run out. A late touch-down pass, and a successful PAT, however, left Lovell up 20 to 14 at half-time.
From there, it was all Lovell. The Bulldogs went on to score three additional touch-downs in the second half – securing a home field win of 42 to 14 over the Bobcats. Coach Boone Bowker said, “Lovell is a good team, but we can compete with them. When they had some success, we just got a little panicked, and didn’t play our best game. When we let up, Lovell took advantage.”
This week, the Cats will be at home on Friday night, playing a Homecoming game against Cokeville. The Panthers are coming off a big win over Pinedale last week, and are currently ranked #5 in 2A - tied with Lovell for 3rd place in the division. Thermopolis sits just one game back, and is tied for 4th place with Kemmerer.
Looking forward to homecoming, Coach Bowker said, “Cokeville is a very disciplined team, probably the most disciplined team we will see all season. They run the same offense they have operated for years. It’s just power football, and we will need to just be ready to compete. If there is a “must win” game on the schedule, this would be it.”
