Save the date for The Red Dirt Master Gardeners annual Farm 2 Fork Dinner on October 13 from 4-6 p.m. at the Community Church Hall, 631 Big Horn St. This year they are focused on Harvest Soup and Salads.
Red Dirt Master Gardener members Stefani LaBeau and Marla Kalal are organizing the event. LaBeau said, “The dinner is important because basically it’s a community service and fundraiser. It raises awareness that the Red Dirt Master Gardeners exist, and it’s a way for us to give back to the community and the community to support us if they would like to.”
LaBeau added, “We host the dinner once a year. Normally it’s in August, but we pushed it back because our theme this year is Harvest Soups, which is kind of hard to do in the middle of August because people don’t want hot soups in August.”
The menu will come from volunteers from the Master Gardeners and includes meals such as West African peanut soup, an elk and vegetable soul, minestrone, stews, a vegetarian soup and many others.
LaBeau also said the foods are “basically whatever somebody would like to bring in. We’re trying to focus obviously on if it can grow in the garden, that’s what we want to have. Some people have had a really bad year because the grasshopper infestation was just so bad. They decimated people’s gardens. So it’s a little harder this year. We also have others donating food, such as rolls, salad fixings, and other items.”
The event has limited space for about 75 to 80 tickets to be sold. The tickets’ cost are ages 5 and under are free, ages 6-10 are $10 and ages 12 and up are $20.
You can buy tickets from any Red Dirt Master Gardeners members or at Storyteller, Audra’s Copper Coo and the Gooseberry Garden Quilt Shop.
