The Hot Springs County High School cross country team competed at the Bryant/Johnson Memorial Cross Country Meet in Riverton on September 12. While the course and weather conditions were favorable, the team did not fare as well as they had hoped.
Junior Jadeth Elder led the team with a ninth place finish, running a time of 18:30.33. Coach Stephanie Metz said, “Jadeth was not happy with his time – but then, he’s a competitor.”
Cole Keller had a time of 20:03.29; Ammon Gevas ran 20:32.38; Teancum Gevas ran a 21:17.38; Clayton Keller ran a time of 23:03.67; and Alec Martinez finished at a time of 24:32.62.
The team from Worland came away as champs for the meet, with a team score of 38. The Bobcats placed fifth with a team score of 116.
The Cats will again be on the road this week – traveling to compete at 3A Lander on Thursday. Coach Metz advises that Lander has a new course this year, one which competitors have not yet had a chance to view, or to experience. Gone, apparently, is the dreaded hill that had been the boon of many a runner’s time in the past.
The Lander event, historically, draws a number of schools, so the team looks forward to sizing up the competition on this new course.
Next week, the Bobcats will be in be in Worland.
