During the week of September 8, members of the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department were in action each day, Monday through Friday. They responded to multiple calls for service including one reported motor vehicle crash, a request for assistance from the police department and numerous grass fires which burned over 1,800 acres. With support from local, state and federal agencies these wildfires are now all 100% contained and present no further threat, according to fire department officials. Members also set up and took down their annual September 11 Memorial. Before returning to the station, they assisted the Town of Thermopolis with removing the flag from the damaged downtown flagpole. They are thankful for the outpouring of support shown by the community. In a press release from the department they stated, "We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the well wishes, kind words and many donations. It is a privilege to serve such a great community."
