Overfield takes win at Bobcat golf invite

The Hot Springs County High School golf team played host at the Bobcat Invite last week, with two rounds of golf at the Thermopolis Golf Course. Mother Nature contrived to provide two great days of weather for the event on September 5 and 6.

The Lady Cats finished in second place, with a team score of 615. The girls from Cody finished in first place, with a team score of 564.

The Bobcats finished the tournament in sixth place (689), while the team champions were the team from Lander (621).

Outstanding senior, Hayden Overfield, took the boys championship – carding scores of 77 and 71, to finish the two-day event at an impressive 148. Hayden’s day two score of 71 was the low round for the tournament.

Van Epperson carded a 174, while teammates, Trevin Shaffer and Ty Simeral, came around just two strokes back at 176. Zerrian Stone carded a 183 and Hayden Johnson and Ian Locke each put up scores of 191.

For the Lady Cats, Lilly Johnson shot a 202, Madison Shaffer shot 204 and Ruth Needham carded a 209.

Coach, Brandon Deromedi, stated that overall he was happy with the team’s play. “We are really trying to focus on playing consistent from day-to-day, and all of the players are working really hard to stay within themselves. Van Epperson had a career tournament – shooting an 85 and an 89. That’s the consistency we need to see from everyone.”

This week the team will travel to Lander to play in a dual event with Kemmerer, as they tune up for next week’s State Championship Tournament in Sheridan.
