The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats varsity volleyball team played host to Lander on September 5. Facing a very competitive team in the Class 3A Tigers, and in a back-and-forth contest, the Lady Cats came away with a three to two win – 25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-11.
Thirteen year head coach, Shannon Hill, said she was very pleased with the tenacity of the Lady Cats to hang in there, and come away with the win in five sets.
“This is not an easy division. There are a lot of very good teams we will see this year, but I expect that we will be in the upper class of teams by the end of the season,” said coach Hill.
Demonstrating some depth to the squad, the JV team also finished with a welcome win against their counter-parts from Lander. After losing a see-saw affair in game one, the girls came back to win handily in game two, and to hold out for a 25-23 hard fought win in game three.
The Lady Cats will travel to compete in the Big Horn Tournament on Thursday and Friday of this week, and will face some very good teams from around the region.
Coach Hill said, “This will be the biggest competition we have faced in this early season, but we are confident in our abilities to match up with any of the teams we will see. We have all the pieces we need to be successful.”
