The Hot Springs County High School cross country team was at the Wyoming Indian School last week for a very competitive cross-country track meet. Five members of the Bobcats team were entered in the event, with scores of the top four runners combining for the Cats team score of 96 – good for a sixth place finish. Lander finished atop the board in team scores at 32 points - with three of their runners finishing in the top ten spots.
Outstanding junior Jadeth Elder came in first in the boys event, with a time of 17:52 – on a pace of 5:30. Junior Cole Keller ran a 20:02; sophomore Teancum Gevas ran 21:02; freshman Clayton Keller ran 21:09 and sophomore Alec Martinez clocked a 28:35.
Commenting on the team’s performance, coach Stephanie Metz said, “The boys were running in the heat – the conditions were very challenging - but they did not let that affect their performance. Each runner kept to his own pace – maintaining focus on his own individual race. They all did really well.”
This week the Cats will travel to Riverton for another challenging contest, this time against teams from a number of Class 3A schools.
