Senior citizens encouraged to apply for property tax relief

Hot Springs County Assessor Daniel Webber has announced that applications are available to apply for the Long Term Homeowner’s Exemption for 2025 on your property taxes. In order to qualify for the exemption, you must meet all of the following criteria:

•You must be at least 65 years old at the time you apply

•You must be the legal owner of record of the property you are applying to receiving the exemption on as of January 1, 2025

•The property for which you are applying for the exemption must be your primary residence and you must reside on the property for no less than 8 months of the year

•You must have paid residential property taxes in Wyoming for at least 25 years

To apply for the exemption, you will need to come into the Assessor’s office in person and bring proof of your age. If you intend to qualify based on paying residential property taxes for 25 years in a County other than Hot Springs County, please be prepared to provide the residential address and County where that residential property was located. Information regarding the exemption including instructions and the application form can be found on the County website at http://www.hscounty.com under the Assessor’s page. The deadline to apply will be May 23, 2025 and there will be no late applications accepted.

Applicants who qualify will receive a 50% exemption of the assessed value for the qualifying property. If your residence and the associated land are assessed on separate accounts, an application will need to be filled out for each account.

The Assessor’s Office is located in the County Court House, 415 Arapahoe, and you can call 864-3414 or e-mail assessor@hscounty.com for more information.
