On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Aug. 26

3:35 p.m. A deputy conducted a sexual assault investigation. The case is pending. 

8:11 p.m. A deputy investigated a crash that occurred in the area of Culver’s Cut. No injuries were reported. 

Tuesday, Aug. 27

9:49 a.m. A deputy investigated a report of theft from a residence in the Missouri Breaks Lane area. This case is pending. 

11:14 a.m. Report of vandalism at the Thermopolis Landfill. 

2:23 p.m. Report of a crash in the area of Highway 20 South. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 

10:43 a.m. A male was found deceased in his home. No foul play was suspected. 

3:23 p.m. Welfare check on a male. 

Thursday, Aug. 29

4:19 p.m. A female subject reported on an ongoing family issue. The case is being referred to DFS. 

Friday, Aug. 30

1:40 p.m. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation. Brandon Boren, 38, was arrested for alleged DUI (3rd Offense). 

4:43 p.m. A deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of East Park Street and Pioneer Drive. Robert Richter, 44, was arrested for alleged DUI. 

3:01 p.m. Report of a male and female drinking in public on the Broadway Street bridge. Meena Loring, a 37-year -old female, was arrested for an alleged violation of a court ordered protection order. 

Saturday, Aug. 31

10:04 p.m. Keith Douglas Kimes, 37, was arrested for alleged DUI. 

Sunday, Sept. 1

12:27 a.m. Agency assist for the police department. 

1:55 p.m. A deputy assisted a citizen who’s tire blew out on their vehicle while traveling south on US Highway 20 near Red Cut.

Monday, August 26

11:24 a.m. A 65-year-old male was trespassed in the 600 block of Clark St.

3:08 p.m. Police made contact with a 58-year-old male after his dog jumped into another person’s vehicle through a car window in a business parking lot. The 58-year-old dog owner was given a citation for dog at large, second offense.

4:44 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop on Justin T. Taylor, 27, for speeding. During the traffic stop police discovered Taylor was an alleged impaired driver by alcohol. Police learned Taylor was actively drinking alcohol with driving and was arrested for alleged suspicion of DUI. Taylor was also issued citations for speeding, no vehicle insurance, reckless driving and open container of alcohol.

Wednesday, Aug. 28

3:23 p.m. Report of a property having overgrown weed in the 900 block of Shoshoni Street. The property owner was given 10 days to remove the weeds.

5:28 p.m. Police conducted a bond check on a female. She was in compliance with her court order.

Thursday, Aug. 29

7:50 a.m. Report of property damage in an alley near South 6th Street. Property damaged included a fiber optic pedal, electrical box and an oil container.

8:55 a.m. Agency assist for Probation and Parole with a home check in the 1300 block of Amoretti.

9:50 a.m. Report of identity theft. The case is under investigation.

10:32 a.m. Nuisance property in the 500 block of Clark Street. The property owner was given 10 days to remove the weeds.

12:07 p,m, Traffic stop was performed on Shelbie D. Lynn, 31, from Riverton for speeding. During the stop, it was determined Lynn was allegedly actively drinking alcohol and was an impaired driver. Lynn was arrested for alleged suspicion of DUI and issued citations for reckless driving, speeding, no insurance and expired registration.

1:40 p.m. Report of a possible drunk driver in the 500 block of Broadway who had hit a light pole and knocked it down and then was driving on the wrong side of the roadway. A Sheriff’s Deputy was able to locate the suspect on Hwy 20 North. 50-year-old Brandon William Johnson was arrested for alleged DUI.

3:35 p.m. Report of a driver who did not stop for a school bus stop. The report is being followed up with the HSC School District.

3:35 p.m. Report of pills taken out of an unlocked vehicle at an unknown location.

Friday, Aug. 30

12:46 p.m. Report of property damage that occurred sometime in the late night to early morning on a vehicle in the 600 block of South 6th Street. The case is pending.

1:15 p.m. A juvenile male was cited for possession of a controlled substance and failing to stop for school bus stop sign.

1:54 p.m. Report of a male and female who snuck into a pool and were refusing to pay. Officers located the couple outside the establishment trying to leave and contact was made at their motorhome. The odor of controlled substances in the RV resulted in a search. 130 grams of liquid controlled substance, and over 3 ounces of plant for controlled substance were located. Ryan Sweeny, 41, and Amy Appleby, 46, both of California were arrested for alleged possession of controlled substances (felony status), possession with intent to diver and misdemeanor theft.

4:21 p.m. Report of an unresponsive person in a hot tub behind a hotel. Upon arrival, a male and female were both located unresponsive in the water. Both subject were transported to the emergency room where the female was pronounced deceased.

Saturday, Aug. 31

4:43 p.m. A 52-year-old transient male will be trespassed form the 300 block of Arapahoe once he is located.

Sunday, Sept. 1

12:27 a.m. Report of a suicidal subject. The subject was located and determined not to be a danger to herself or others. She was advised of her available resources and was assisted back to her home.

12:14 p.m. A 63-year-old male was served a trespass notic for the 600 block of Amoretti.

5:32 p.m. An officer observed a dog running at large in the 1000 block of Shoshoni Street on the highway. The dog was transported to the vet clinic. The 18-yea-old male dog owner was issues a dog running large citation and the dog was released to him.
