The Hot Springs County High School Bobcats have begun to formulate their game plan for the 2024 season. After finishing the 2A West season last year in 5th place – going 2 and 4 in the division, and 2 and 7 overall – the Cats are looking to capitalize on the knowledge and experience garnered in last season’s campaign.
Last year’s young team is now a bit older, and a lot more knowledgeable. While his young team was competitive on defense last year, second year coach, Boone Bowker, is determined to improve the team’s somewhat anemic offensive totals from last season. Last fall, the team averaged less than 200 offensive yards per game, and put up an average of just 11 points per game. The Bobcats have not earned a playoff berth since 2019, and the team is determined to get back to the post season this year. Coach Bowker says the team is now older, and more experienced. “We’re no longer a ‘young’ team. We have high expectations – no excuses.”
The Worland Warriors return to the 2A West Division this year, with the realignment of teams in the state. Thinking ahead to that contest, coach says: “It is good to have the Warriors back in 2A. The rivalry between the two schools is legendary and it’s good for competition.”
Before the Bobcats get to see Worland, however, they will open their season against Newcastle, in Buffalo, on Friday, August 30.
