Retirement party

A retirement party to honor Ron and Audrey Philips will be held on Thursday, August 29 from 5-7 p.m. at The Help Center located at 426 Big Horn.

They have served the community for eight years helping those in need since 2016 when they first opened The Help Center in our community.

Blood drive

A Thermopolis Community Blood Drive will be held at the Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 2 - 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m -1 p.m. Please notice the date change due to Labor Day on Sept. 2. Their goal for each drive is to have 70 donations and two-day drives help reach that goal. Walk-ins are always welcome but appointments are encouraged. To make an appointment, go to Vitalant.org or contact the Community Blood Coordinator, Melene Mierzejewski at (307) 240-1414. There is always a need for blood and only volunteer donors can fill that need for patients in our community. The Blood Drive is sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary. The next blood drive will be Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 4 and 5.

Boiling Water Canning Class Offered by UW Extension in Thermopolis

Join University of Wyoming Extension educator Melissa Cook for a boiling water canning class at the Hot Springs County Extension office on September 11 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The class will cover USDA recommended canning practices for making jam. The cost is $15, which includes all supplies. Space is limited, so call (307) 864-3421 or email hotsprng@uwyo.edu to reserve your spot today.

Suicide Awareness Training

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and The Episcopal Church in Wyoming are Partnering with Soul Shop to present Faith based suicide prevention workshop. This will be a transformative one-day workshop designed to discuss the critical issue of suicide within our communities. This event will equip you with tools to create a supportive resource, train individuals in suicide awareness and basic conversation skills, and extend an invitation to those who have been suicidal in the past to share their stories. Whether you are a healthcare worker, social worker, counselor, or a faith leader, this workshop will help you cultivate a soul-safe culture in your environment.

Soul Shop workshops include addressing the primary obstacles to dealing suicide such a stigma, fear, and shame statistics/facts about suicide, and how to ministries can create a supportive environment, while shifting the culture around how people deal with this subject and one another.

This workshop will be Thursday, September 12 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1126 U.S. 16, Worland, Wyo. Lunch will be included. Register at: diowy.inf/soulshop
