Dan Pass and the Thermopolis Fly Shop are offering up a monthly guided fishing opportunity. The next opportunity will be on Saturday, September 7, at the Popo Agie River. The fee includes travel, lunch and five to six hours of fishing.
Pass said, “The idea behind it is really to make taking a guided fishing trip affordable and also to allow people to meet other people in the community that like to fish, because we’re basically splitting up the cost of the guides, if you will, between three strangers.”
Pass added, “It basically allows people to cost share a guided fishing trip to meet their neighbors. And, you know, we’re going to have basically, like, a monthly trip on the first weekend of the month where we’re going to explore the different waters that we have permits on. The ultimate goal is to really try to build the community.”
Regarding what participants would experience, Pass said, “That you would get to travel with a group and knowledgeable guides to go experience a new area, you would learn the boundaries, the general rules, the permits. We would talk about safety, such as grizzlies. We would show you different spots to fish and, and talk about the region. You would get to go fish with guides. And you’d get a stream side lunch, hopefully leave with more knowledge of the river that we just went to and some friends along the way.”
This program is a 12 month per year program that focuses on fly-fishing and includes bird hunting in winter. All are welcome and space is limited. To RSVP, call 864-3499 or email thermopolisflyshop@gmail.com.
