Fall golf season kicks off at Powell

The Bobcat golf team was in Powell last week to compete at the Powell Invitational. Ten teams were in attendance, including teams from some very accomplished Class 3A and 4A schools, including last year's Class 4A girls champion team from Sheridan. Although the event was scheduled for two days, play was suspended, due to adverse weather, on Thursday the 14th, and consequently, scores were only tallied for the Friday round.

The Powell Golf Course is located a few miles east of the Town of Powell, and is nestled among a mix of verdant farm lands, and sparsely vegetated desert lands. The course is comprised of eighteen holes, with a par of 72, and covers nearly seven thousand yards

The Bobcats had seven golfers competing, and finished with a combined score of 342 – good enough to tie for a fifth place finish. Outstanding senior, Hayden Overfield, finished the tournament atop the leader board, with a one under par score of 71. Hayden Johnson carded an 86, to finish tied for 32nd place, Ian Locke finished 42nd at 93, and Trevin Shaffer came in tied for 43rd, with a score of 94.

For the Lady Cats, Lilly Johnson carded an 96, to finish in a five-way tie for 8th place. Ruth Needham scored a 105 to finish in 19th place, and Madison Shaffer came in with a score of 108, to finish tied for 20th place. The Lady Cats finished in fourth place in the team standings, with a combined score of 309. Two level 4A players from Sheridan finished atop the leader board at 79 and 84.

Commenting on the event, coach Brandon Deromedi stated, "Overall, I couldn't be happier with how the team played. It was a good first outing, with some real positive aspects, and some good opportunities to recognize where a player could have done better. We have six Bobcats on the team this year, who have the skills to be very competitive at State, and I can't wait to see how things shake out."

The team will travel to Lander to compete on August 22-23. Coach Deromedi said, "The course in Lander is a tough course, but it's a fun course to play. The current dry conditions there may make things a bit more challenging than normal."
