The Bobcat cross country team began preparations for a new season this week, with two-a-day practices commencing on Monday. Head Coach, Stephanie Metz, and Assistant Coach, Kaitlyn Dudrick, have the runners working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The team’s first meet will be in Cheyenne on August 30 for the state pre-view event.
From there, the schedule becomes grueling – with weekly events set at the Indian School on September 6, at Riverton on the 12th, at Lander on the 19th and at Worland on the 26th. October will kick off with the Bobcat Invitational on October 3, and then the team will compete at Powell on October 11. Conference Finals will be at home in Thermopolis on October 18, with State Finals in Cheyenne on October 26.
The team raises funds for travel and uniform expenses, by hosting 5K races throughout the year. Earlier this month the team hosted the Pageant Day Race, which was enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
On September 27, the team will again host its annual night time 5K Glow Run. The course begins at the high school track, then winds through the community of Thermopolis and finishes back at the high school track. The event is both a fun, and an unusual, good time for those who enter the race, and also, for those who prefer to play the role of spectator.
