The 2A High School Fall Golf Season kicks off this week for the Bobcat golf teams. Practices began on Monday and the first tournament of the season will be played in Powell on August 14-15. The season will last a short six weeks, and will conclude with the State Championship Tournament at the Kendrick Golf Course, in Sheridan.
Following up on a remarkable season from a year ago, the Lady Cats have two returning All-State players in juniors Lilly Johnson and Madison Shaffer. Madison and Lilly were two of three players who won the Girls State 2A Championship at Newcastle last September, and are two of the top six players returning this year to compete in the girls 2A division.
The Lady Cats followed up their terrific fall season, with a first place finish at Tongue River in April, a second place finish at Hulett in April and a 2A Spring Season Championship in Torrington in early May. After saying farewell to last year’s senior, Maggie Landon, the Lady Cats remain the team to beat this fall season.
For the Bobcats, last year’s stand-out, Hayden Overfield, will be returning for his senior year and is one of the top six 2A boys ranked for the fall season. Hayden took the boys championship at Hulett last fall. Incoming freshman, Trevin Shaffer, will be a great addition to the team, after shooting an impressive 86 at Worland last fall, while playing in the middle school division.
The Bobcats finished in the top five in two tournaments in the spring season, and finished in third place at the Spring 2A Championships in May. The Bobcats look to come on strong this year.
The fall season roster looks very well balanced, comprising of sixteen players - including three seniors; four juniors; three sophomores and six freshmen.
Things are looking up for the Bobcats and Lady Cats. Head Coach, Brandon Deromedi, and Assistant Coach, Ryan Shaffer, look forward to a rewarding fall season.
