He enlisted in the US Army in 1966. He served in numerous different locations, including 2 tours in Vietnam. Being a Medi Vac for 16 years, he was one of the first responders to the mass casualty at Jonestown, Guyana. He loved flying helicopters, with his security clearance which gave the opportunity to fly important members of the Government. When he wasn't abroad he was mostly stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., 101st Airborne Division, where he retired from the Army in 1989, having served his country for 23 years.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Blankenship.

His canine companion Miaka, will surely miss him.

He loved living in Thermopolis so much as a child, he decided to make it his home in the early 2000s.

He enjoyed spending time with other Veterans and never met a stranger. He had many friends including his closest, Jack. He enjoyed being a part of the Gift of the Waters events, where he would play drums with his Native American friends from the Shoshone and Arapaho Nations.

He took lots of rides to see the Buffalo with Miaka and previously canine companions, Jasper and Major.

A memorial will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 5 p.m. at the one way, near the Buffalo Pasture in Thermopolis. Casual attire. Refer any questions to Jack Mayfield.
