The Red Dirt Master Gardeners are holding a fundraiser to buy a much needed new storage shed. The shed would be permanently stored at the community garden near the new geodesic dome.
Becky Hutson said, “The Farmer’s Market has grown exponentially in the past couple of years. We now have several banners, sandwich boards, tables, tents, chairs, and magazines or publications through the University we give out. These items would be stored in the shed.”
The cost for the shed is $2,615 and would be purchased locally with free delivery. The Red Dirt Master Gardeners program is not funded by the University of Wyoming, and that’s why they are doing the fundraiser.
Hutson said about their fundraiser that, “Anything will help. If we don’t raise the money by October for our Farm to Fork dinner, some of those proceeds we could use. We really hit a snag this year. We used to get an AmeriCorp volunteer, and they cut the federal program and so that just left us scrambling. We’re still trying to get some money now from the Grow a Little Extra program to pay for someone to help out in the community garden and with the Farmer’s Market.”
Those who are interested in donating, visit them at the Farmer’s Market downtown on 5th Street and Broadway on Saturday’s 8 a.m.-noon. They can accept credit or debit card donations along with check or cash. Additionally, they also have t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale.
