Petition deadline for senior center ballot question nears

The deadline for signatures on a petition for a proposed Primary Election ballot question is coming up on May 12. The petition drive was launched by the Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Center, Inc.

The proposed ballot question: Shall the Hot Springs Senior Citizens Special District be established with a maximum levy of 2 mills to be imposed on the taxable property of the district, the purpose of which is to support the Center’s operations and facilities, including construction. The petition is to get this question on the ballot so all voters can vote yes or no in August.

The proposed name of the district is “Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Special District,” with a boundary including all of Hot Springs County, including all incorporated and unincorporated areas.

To sign a petition, stop by the Senior Center before May 12 at 206 Senior Avenue any weekday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are unable to come to the center to sign, call 864-2151 and someone can bring the petition to you.

Anyone wanting to sign the petition must be a registered voter of Hot Springs County. To be on the ballot, 332 certified signatures are needed.
