Chamber discusses upcoming events

At the April Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, they held their annual board meeting with the reading of their mission statement and discussing fundraising ideas. Some of those ideas included a lemonade stand activity for kids to learn business, senior picture banners, and a potential talent show. 

In old business, for the nomination committee, the board provided a slate for their election. The slate includes Falina Hill, Bradyn Harvey, and Jolie Nicodemus. Also, the chamber’s April Lunch & Learn will be on April 18 with Mark Whitt, discussing retirement income planning.

Coming up on July 7 will be the Culpepper & Merriwether Circus. Showtimes will be at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

In new business, the board discussed their second quarter Table Tents. On May 14, the Business After Hours will be at Hot Springs Health during lunchtime, which is to accommodate school events happening that evening. May 23 will be the Beer & Brats event hosted by Central Bank & Trust at the Kiwanis Shelter. 

The Pageant Day Parade will be on August 3 and the Demolition Derby will be on August 10. The chamber’s summer hours begin May 1, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Howie Samelson, representing Main Street Thermopolis, provided an update where he discussed their Love Local campaign and said that they will attend their national conference in Birmingham, Alabama May 2-9. Also, their mural at the old fire hall will have its ribbon-cutting dedication on April 18 at 5:30 p.m.

In the director’s report Chamber CEO Meri Ann Dorman gave an update on the shooting complex process. They submitted their letters of interest to the selection committee. They have to have all the remaining documents submitted by June 3 and they will narrow down the applications. Then there will be site visits in July. Then recommendations will be submitted. Later, the state legislature will vote on their approval of the winning location in 2025, with ground being broken that summer. Currently, there are about 9 applications contending for the shooting complex location. 

The next Chamber board meeting will be on May 16 at Big Horn Federal.
