Family history program Saturday

The April meeting of the Hot Springs County Historical Society will be held this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum. The program will be “Finding Joy in Doing Family History,” presented by Don Larson.

Larson’s talk and slide presentation will inform the community about the many different online and personal genealogical programs and software that make family history easy and fun. Presented will be information on how to find online classes, webinars, recorded family history instructions, and types of records used in family history research. He will introduce personal family history assistance and instruction through one-on-one help from consultants.

Larson was born in Wichita, Kansas. After graduating from Wichita East High, he joined the US Navy. He retired after 20 years and then attended Lewis Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, where he received an associate degree in business administration. Transferring to BYU Provo, he continued his education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in family history and a master’s degree in Library Science. After finishing a two-year mission at the BYU Family History Library, he was hired to train seniors going on family history missions throughout the world.

Larson moved to Kirby in 1995. Since February 2014, Larson and his wife Jane have served as consultants for the Thermopolis FamilySearch Center.
