The Thermopolis Town Council held a brief meeting at Town Hall on March 19. During citizen participation, Frank Davis presented a request for a Motorcycle Awareness Parade on May 4 at noon. Davis said the parade path would begin at the old Shopko building to Canyon Hills Road to 14th Street, a right onto Broadway, a left turn at 6th Street, to Park Street, to Hot Springs State Park, and go through the park, then right to East Broadway, a right at 4th Street, left on Arapahoe to 6th Street, then left to Broadway Street and turn left to finish at the VFW.
Davis anticipates approximately 50 participants and there would be a blessing of the bikes by the Christian Motorcycle Association at the old Shopko prior to the parade. Davis added there would be no stops during the parade. Chief Pat Cornwell said that the Police department would assist in stopping traffic. The council voted and passed the approval of the parade request.
Mayor Adam Estenson held separate public hearings for two permits. There were no public comments given. The first was a malt beverage permit for Tess Williams of RYTE Rehabilitation for their event on April 20. The second was a 24-hour alcoholic beverage sales permit and catering permit for OEB Saloon LLC for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation event on April 6. The council voted and passed separate approvals of both permits.
In codes and administration, Assistant to the Mayor Jim Jeunehomme presented a right-of-way fencing permit for a property in the 1300 block of Clark Street. Jeunehomme recommended the council to pass it as the request met all qualifications. The council voted and passed the approval of the permit.
Jeunehomme also presented a bid submission from Floyd Trucks Center of Casper for a garbage truck for $249,976, which would arrive in September 2025. Jeunehomme said the vehicle meets all their requirements. The council voted and passed the approval to accept the bid.
Mayor Estenson said regarding the purchase of garbage truck, “This is in an effort to continue to move forward with our plans of the inevitable closing of the landfill and transfer station and this is us keeping the town in the business of trash collection where we have control over price or we don’t privatize it, we keep the dumpsters. So that is the direction there.”
