Just born

A two year old heifer vigorously licks her newborn calf to remove amniotic fluid, warm the calf and establish the cow–calf bond. While calving season for most area ranchers is in full swing special attention is usually given to the two year olds. Before a cow becomes a cow, they are actually called heifers. Heifers are female cattle who have yet to give birth. Heifers generally are more at risk for calving problems such as excessive calf size, inadequate size of birth canal and sometimes even rejecting calf when it is born.
