Lawsuit filed against Wyoming Boys' School, staff

Blaise Chivers-King, Charles “Rees” Karn and Dylan Tolar (by and through Debra Dever) have filed a lawsuit against the Wyoming Department of Family Services, the Wyoming Boys’ School, the superintendent of the Boys’ School Dale Weber and nine Boys’ School staff.

By and through their attorneys, ALM Law, LLC and Rathod/Mohamedbhai, LLC, the plaintiff’s claim unconstitutional and unlawful practices at the Wyoming Boys’ School resulting in alleged physical and emotional abuse.

The Wyoming Department of Family Service says the Boys’ School provides delinquent boys ages 12 to 21 with programming that focuses on psychological and emotional development, mental health therapies and opportunities to improve their lives.

According to the complaint, the three plaintiffs experienced much different treatment at the facility, located just south of Worland along Highway 20 North.

The additional named defendants include current and former staff Elsa Olson, Amanda Turner, Tate Adams, Mike Nelson, Mark Nelson, Thad Shaffer, John Schwalbe, Kevin McGenty and Margaret Dahlke.

The lawsuit filing document alleges that “The defendants caused plaintiffs to suffer significant harm. As a result, the plaintiffs left the Boys’ School more damaged and traumatized than when they first entered the facility.”

The lawsuit was filed on Monday, February 26. The plaintiffs have requested a jury trial.

The relief portion of the complaint does not ask for a specific amount, instead it asks for “All appropriate relief at law and equity.” Types of relief listed are damages for emotional distress, humiliation, loss of enjoyment of life and other pain and suffering; punitive damages; attorney fees and costs and any further relief the court deems just and proper.

All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty.
