After a period of declining health, Sherry Dee Wheeler was called home on February 17, 2024.
The daughter of Jay and Esther Wollam, Sherry married her high school sweetheart, Danny Wheeler in 1968. They spent the first years of their marriage in Anchorage, Alaska, while he was stationed there in the Army. Here the first of their three daughters was born. After Danny's army service, the couple returned to Wyoming, where they welcomed two more daughters.
In addition to her favorite job of being a wife and mother, Sherry also spent several years teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church when the girls were young. She ran the bakery at Consumer's for a time, supervised many paper routes, and assisted her husband at Wheeler Dealer's.
Always humble about her abilities, Sherry was a skilled seamstress who sewed her own wedding gown as well as creating many special occasion dresses for her daughters, granddaughters and even a great granddaughter. Sherry's talents didn't end in the sewing room. A graduate of Acme Beauty College, Sherry was an adept hair stylist, which certainly came in handy with three girls! Sherry accomplished many home improvement projects including terraced rock landscaping, tile and woodwork, and drywall to name a few. When complimented about her handiwork, Sherry simply commented that she was amazed that there were so many "educated dummies" who couldn't figure these projects out.
Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Wheeler; and father, Jay Wollam.
She is missed by her daughters, Shawna (Louis) Bradshaw, Dana (Travis) McDermott, and Kimberly (Bart) Becher; mother, Esther Wollam; brother, Randy (Shari) Wollam; grandchildren, Louis M. (Natalie) Bradshaw, Ryan Bradshaw, Cullen Becher, Haley (Hudson) Roling, Ethan Becher, Caydence Becher, Wyatt McDermott, and Kendall (Luke) Dickey; and 4 great grandchildren.
Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
