Robotics team competes at statewide event

The Hot Springs County High School Robotics Team was in Casper last Saturday - competing in a state-wide event, which pitted twenty-seven teams against one another, in a competition of mechanical and electronic mastery.

The Wyoming 2024 FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship event was held at CY Middle School. The Bobcats fielded two teams in the competition, and although both teams ran into some logistical challenges, each team performed well in the full day event.

Team Fist Full of Axels (7283) suffered through some significant mechanical issues throughout the day, however, the team still managed to score points, and to provide a good support robot for their fellow team. The young Fist Full of Axels team is comprised of Teancum Gevas (Fr); Alec Martinez (Fr); Natalie Keeney (So); Ayden Coleman-Weisz (Fr); and Kaden Scheel (Fr).

Team Aluminati (4273) experienced drive-train issues, which kept their robot unable to move, most of the day. The team was able to overcome some issues, however, other issues were insurmountable. The Aluminati team is comprised of Aiden Freeman (Sr); Ayden Brawley (Sr); and Jadeth Elder (So).

Coach London Jenks said, “Although neither team received an award for the tournament, I was really proud of their effort on Saturday, and throughout the season. The team members who will be returning next year, will be able to use this experience next season. We have some much needed materials, in order to compete next year, so we will continue to do some fundraising, to cover those expenses.”
