Wrestlers sidelined by Mother Nature

The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat wrestling teams had been scheduled to attend the Buffalo Duals last weekend, however, Mother Nature had other plans. With an apparent snow filled storm brewing, the teams thought better of attempting to head over the pass, and focused instead on getting ready for regionals this weekend.

While, consequently, both teams had the weekend off, coach Travis McDermott insisted on each wrestler making weight on Friday - to keep the team focused, and to maintain routines and regimens, which the wrestlers had grown used to over the course of the season.

The Lady Cats will be in Riverton on Friday and Saturday for their regionals. The Riverton event will be one of two such regional events for girls wrestling teams from around the state. Some twenty teams are expected to compete in Riverton this weekend.

Coach McDermott said the girls team is looking good for regionals, and that “All six of the girls will be in contention to place, with Lilly Quintanilla, Alex Sorensen, Kaitlin Barral and Kailey Allen all being in a position to garner championships. Freshmen Summer Galovich and Ava Dafoe have both been progressing in their technique, and I expect good things from them in Riverton.”

The Bobcats will be competing at the boys regionals in Shoshoni on Saturday, with eleven teams expected to compete.

Coach McDermott said, “We’ve been scoring a lot of points this year, and have been beating some really quality teams. I expect that the boys will be contenders on Saturday. It should be a really good event.”
