The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat Wrestling Teams were hard at it last week, at home on Thursday night, in a dual against Worland, and on Saturday, competing in a one-day tournament at Greybull. Both events resulted in good things for Thermopolis.
Thursday night was Senior Night at the high school, with eight seniors being recognized for their contributions to Bobcat wrestling including Kailey Allen, Kaitlin Barral, Dalton Price, Ethan Crow, Daniel Blair, Jessen Basse, Seth Needham and Mason Reese.
In the dual match against the Worland Warriors, the Bobcats won the event, with a team score of 47 to Worland's 24. Although the Cats had to start the event by forfeiting three weight classifications, they went on to win all but one of the matches.
Varsity wrestlers Dyllan Myers, Cannon Boren, Dalton Price, Jessen Basse, Will Ward, Seth Needham, Sam Skelton, Brody Sorensen and Mason Reese all won their matches. Wins were also had JV wrestlers Tannen Birdsley, Ethan Crow, Colter Price and Daniel Blair.
At Greybull on Saturday, the Bobcats finished with a second place trophy, finishing short of only the team from Moorcroft. The Cats had to give up too many weight classes to stay ahead of Moorcroft. Despite that, they had four champions for the boys including Cannon Boren (120lbs.), Will Ward (144lbs.), Sam Skelton (157lbs) and Brody Sorensen (165lbs.).
Colter Price finished 2nd in a very tight match that was decided by a single point. Dyllan Myers had a 3rd place finish and Ethan Crow, Jessen Basse and Seth Needham all brought home 4th place finishes. Tannen Birdsley had a 2nd place finish for the JV Team.
The Greybull Tournament was equally a success for the Lady Cats, who finished in 3rd place, bringing home two championships, and two 3rd place finishes.
Once again, Lilly Quintanilla brought home a championship, her seventh of the season, as well as her fourth Outstanding Wrestler Award this year.
Alix Sorensen also brought home a championship, her fourth of the season.
Ava Dafoe and Kailey Allen each had 3rd place finishes, while Summer Galovich ended the tournament with a 4th place finish.
The two teams will travel to Buffalo this week, for a dual to finish off the regular season.
