Presentation on caves featured at Historical Society meeting

The Hot Springs County Historical Society will hold the program “Caves of My Life, From the Big Horns and Back Again in 44 Years” on Saturday afternoon, February 10 at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum. The presenter is Juan Laden.

This is a talk and slide show of a life dedicated to cave exploration. From surveying, vertical caving and scientific inquiry, one finds not only joy and the physicality, beauty, intellectual stimulation but also camaraderie in the exploration of the subterranean world. This offering will share some of the images of this life experience that has taken place on three continents, starting here in Wyoming in the Big Horn Mountains and coming back to the Big Horn Mountains.

Juan Laden was born in Panama, and spent the next number of years living in New York, California, England, and Denmark. He moved to Wyoming in 1973. It was while at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander that he came into caving in 1979 and never looked back.

This meeting is open to everyone who is interested in the history of Thermopolis, Hot Springs County, and the State of Wyoming. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 307-272-4740, 864-2678, or 912-1551.
