Andreen, Barral receive special recognition
The Hot Springs County High School Student Council attended the 67th Annual Convention of the Wyoming Association of Student Councils (WASC), held in Gillete on November 13 and 14. The HSCHS Delegation was comprised of twelve members of the Student Council. Council Members were accompanied by their Advisor, London Jenks, who is a past recipient of the Advisor of the Year Award (2019).
WASC annually holds a convention at which student council members gather from across the state to present, and to discuss their school’s student council projects. This year over 900 such students were in attendance.
Jenks advises that: “The annual convention not only serves as a forum for learning and growth, but also is a testament to the dedication and potential to be found within Wyoming’s Student Council community. As these young leaders return to their respective schools, their experiences at the convention are bound to leave a lasting imprint upon the local student councils, and upon the broader student communities.”
HSCHS received special recognition in several categories at this year’s convention.
Maddison Andreen received the Hidden Hero Award, “which recognizes student leaders in member schools, who are dedicated and responsible student council members, and who often work behind the scenes with little recognition.”
Jenks said, “Maddison’s remarkable contributions to our student council in the short time that she has served with the organization, have earned for her this distinction, demonstrating the impact that even newer members of the council may have on shaping the future of the school.”
Each year, WASC recognizes 15 senior leaders “for elevating their leadership,” and names those individuals to the All State Student Council.
This year, Kaitlin Barral was recognized as a member of that prestigious club, for her significant contributions to her community. Kaitlin has served on the HSCHS Student Council for four years, and currently serves as Student Body Vice-President.
The Bobcat Student Council was also named this year to the Honor Council, for its contribution of $1,250 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s Annual Initiative, and for implementing a new blood donation drive for high school students.
This is the 5th time HSCHS has received this recognition (1993, 2003, 2021, 2022 and 2023). Honor Council status recognizes “the outstanding work of WASC member schools.”
