Robert R. James

Robert R. James, 86, passed away from Covid on October 3, 2023, in Thermopolis, Wyo. Robert (Bob) was born on November 15, 1936, to Nora (Dow) and Allan Russel James in Thermopolis.  

Bob grew up in and moved to Thermopolis, where he went to school and graduated high school in 1953. While in high school, Bob met the love of his life, Sharon Gossens. 

Shortly after graduation, Bob enlisted in the Air Force. Bob and Sharon were married on November 3, 1955. Bob was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and Japan. 

After three years in the Air Force, Bob worked at a gas station when they first got to Cody. Later, he was blessed to find a job at the Husky Refinery. Their first son, Robert Arthur James, was born in Thermopolis on October 11, 1959. Their second son, Clinton Warren James, was born in Cody, Wyo., on March 6, 1972. 

Bob worked at the Husky refinery and moved to Marathon Oil Company in Cody.   

Bob and Sharon moved back to Thermopolis after Bob retired from Marathon. While in Thermopolis, Bob commuted and worked for the BLM in Worland. Then, after retiring from the BLM, he went to work for the Holiday Inn and drove a bus for the school system. 

Bob and Sharon decided to sell their home in the Wind River Canyon in Thermopolis. They moved back to Cody in the early 2000s. 

Sharon passed away on February 26, 2016. Bob moved to Boulder, Colo., with his son, Clint, in 2017. Bob returned to live in Thermopolis in 2018.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Allen Marvin James; and son Clint.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 310 South 6th Street, Thermopolis. His cremains will be buried beside his beloved wife, Sharon, in Riverside Cemetery.
