On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Oct. 2

12:28 p.m. Deputies took a report of livestock invading neighboring property along Highway 20 North. 

Tuesday, Oct. 3

7:37 p.m. An investigation was opened for a person who caused damage to BLM property with a vehicle. A juvenile male has been identified as the driver of the vehicle. The juvenile has been given an opportunity to repair his damages or face a citation. 

8:09 p.m. Deputies responded to a call of a female walking on Highway 120. The female was located and Christa Jeanae Mason, 50, was arrested for an alleged violation of her probation. 

Wednesday, Oct. 4

3:02 p.m. Agency assist for the Bureau of Land Management with possible cattle rustling. Subjects were located by BLM and found to have permission to move the cattle. 

10:01 p.m. Welfare check for an adult male. The male was advised to not misuse 911.

Thursday, Oct. 5

9:49 a.m. A female was found deceased at a residence.

9:17 a.m. Report of a welfare check on an adult male. The male was found to be okay.

3:51 p.m. Report of an ambulance assist for a male who had fallen in his residence.

6:55 p.m. Deputies responding to a vehicle versus antelope crash in Sage Valley.

9:01 p.m. Emergency medical services assist for a male who had fallen. The male was transported to the hospital. 

Friday, Oct. 6

9:02 a.m. Deputies responded to East River Road to locate a deer that was reportedly struck and injured by a vehicle. 

10:19 a.m. Deputies responded to a woman making suicidal comments. The woman said she was fine and was asked to leave the property by the renter of the property. 

3:38 p.m. Heidi Nichole Dietrich, 44, from Kentucky, was placed in the detention center on a warrant arrest. Her original charges were for driving while under the influence with severe bodily injury and aggravated homicide by vehicle.

8:07 p.m. Report of a driver of a truck that swerved and missed some cows on the highway and then struck a Game and Fish sign. There was minor damage to the truck, and no citations were given.

Saturday, Oct. 7

11:39 a.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

1:34 p.m. Search and rescue call for a two-year-old that was reported missing in the Shoshone National Forest. Hot Springs County Search and Rescue, Guardian Flight, Wyoming Game and Fish, Bureau of Land Management, and Wyoming Office of Homeland Security assisted with resources to assist with this search. The child was located and was unharmed. 

4:38 p.m. Report of a driving complaint of a motorcyclist passing in no-passing zones. The motorcyclist was located and a 44-year-old male from Powell was issued a citation. 

9:57 p.m. Report of a multiple vehicles speeding and possibly racing on the Lane 3 and Lane 7 area. The vehicles were not located, but damage to the road was found on the curves from vehicles traveling too fast. Deputies will be performing extra traffic enforcement in this area to address future offenses. 

Sunday, Oct. 8

12:21 p.m. Deputies investigated a heavily decomposed cow that needed to be buried. 

3:23 p.m. Report of money taken from a debit card. The matter is still under investigation.

8:33 p.m. Christa Jeanae Mason, 50, was arrested for an active arrest warrant.

Monday, Oct. 2

4:49 p.m. Report of a family disturbance in the 100 block of Highway 20 South. 

5:43 p.m. Citizen assist for a male who was provided a place for the night.

5:11 p.m. Report of a vehicle crash at the intersection of 6th Street and Broadway Street. No injuries were reported. A 32-year-old male was issued a citation. 

Tuesday, Oct. 3

3:20 p.m. Report of harassment in the 600 block of Park Street. 

4:37 p.m. Parking problem involving a camper parked across the sidewalk in the 800 block of Arapahoe Street. The female owner was given a week to move it and registered with up-to-date registration tags. 

Wednesday, Oct. 4

8:42 a.m. A female in the 1000 block of Arapahoe Street was contacted about her dog bark and being a nuisance to the neighbors. The female was advised to get barking collars and keep the dogs inside or else a citation will be issued.

10:38 a.m. Report of a possible protection order violation in the 1300 block of Odell Avenue. 

3:13 p.m. Report of a an offensive drawing of a staff member at the high school. The school will handle the matter.

5:20 p.m. Report of a broken window in the 100 block of Teepee Street.

7:07 p.m. A 44-year-old female from Washington was removed from a hotel.

Thursday, Oct. 5

8:23 a.m. A local school contacted the police to report that a possible family fight was in progress at a student’s home. The school received this information from a third party. Police responded, but found no one at the home. Police made contact with a family member at the school and determined the family disturbance was a verbal altercation. Police determined that both juveniles were safe at school. 

10:42 a.m. Police responded to the 8th Street boat ramp for the report of a truck, boat, and boat trailer in the Bighorn River. Upon arrival, police located the vehicle owner to be safe on the river bank. The owner stated his truck slipped out of gear as he was attempting to launch his boat into the river. The owner secured his own tow truck company to retrieve his truck, trailer, and boat out of the river. 

Friday, Oct. 6

11:27 a.m. A structure fire was reported in the 100 block of East Park Street. Upon arrival, it was determined that an employee cleaning the kitchen had dropped plastic on the hot stove, causing heavy smoke. The fire chief deemed the scene safe, as there was no fire caused by the melted plastic. 

2:25 p.m. An elderly female made contact with police at the Law Enforcement Center to report a possible telephone scam. Police determined that the female was being scammed and not to release any of her funds electronically. Police informed the female that this was the old Social Security Administration scam. Police advised the female to block the scammer’s phone numbers. Police advised her that if the scammers did make contact with her again, to inform them that the police are assisting her with this matter. 

3:45 p.m. Report of two home burglaries and two thefts of items from within vehicles in the 800 and 900 block of Richards Street. The female juvenile in question was located and stolen items were returned to their rightful owners. 

Saturday, Oct. 7

9:30 a.m. Report of a citizen dispute in the 400 block of Park Street. As officers were en route, they located an involved vehicle traveling west on Mondell at approximately 50 mph in a marked 30 mph zone. A traffic stop was performed where the 34-year-old male was contacted about the incident and was served a criminal trespass notice.

11:39 a.m. Jessica Boedeker, 34, was arrested in the 400 block of Park Street for alleged criminal trespassing and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. 

3 p.m. Report of an adult male in front of the law enforcement center harassing an adult female from an earlier call as the female attempted to check in to the law enforcement due to her bond conditions. A report was created. 

2:32 p.m. Officers were requested to the Hot Springs State Park boat ramp for the reporting female from a prior disturbance call. It was discovered that the female had mistakenly taken the wrong truck and trailer during a shuttle until the vehicle owner informed her she brought him the wrong truck. The actual owner of the truck was contacted and reunited with his vehicle. 

9:59 p.m. Report of a verbal domestic in the 1000 block of Richards Street involving an adult female and an adult male. Officers arrived on scene with the assistance from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and investigated the incident. It was determined that nothing criminal occurred during these acts, and the two were separated for the evening. 

Sunday, Oct. 8

10 a.m. Report of an elderly female who was bitten by a cat when trying to remove it from her yard. The cat was taken to the vet clinic for rabies testing. 

1:53 p.m. A domestic violence victim made unannounced contact with a police officer at the officer’s residence. The victim was seeking legal advice and protection assistance. The police officer was not able to provide legal advice but was able to provide protection assistance to the victim. 

Circuit Court

Brendan C. Murphy, compulsory auto insurance, first offense, fees and fines $570.

Jay B. White, driving while under the influence of alcohol equal to or greater than .08% within two hours of driving, first offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 178 days suspended, one-year unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Collin W. McCormick, battery, 180 days jail, 149 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $220, and use a controlled substance, Schedule I, II or III, 180 days jail, 149 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $220 and interference with a peace officer, 365 days jail, 334 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Lovina Alcon was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, Schedule I or II, amount more than in para ci, and possession of a controlled substance, plant, three ounces or less.

Ronald Bamberger, careless driving, first offense, fees and fines $250 and open container of alcohol, moving vehicle, first offense, fees and fines $150, and seat belt: driver, fees and fines $25.
