On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Sept. 4

8:30 a.m. Deputies investigated a single-vehicle crash with minor injuries on East Cottonwood Road and Sand Draw. 

11:03 a.m. Deputies responded to a report of the driver of a vehicle that was unsafely passing and almost caused two crashes. The vehicle was observed passing vehicles in a no-passing zone. The 40-year-old male driver from Englewood, Colo., was issued two citations for violating the passing zone and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. 

2:10 p.m. A 17-year-old juvenile male driver who was cited for driving without a license. The complaint originated from a dangerous driving call. The male was pulled over for a broken windshield.

Tuesday, Sept. 5

7:56 a.m. An agency assist for Highway Patrol with a crash.

11:46 a.m. A horse was found crossing the roadway on Highway 20 North. 

12:25 p.m. Ambulance assist on a medical call.

5:29 p.m. Report of a large rock located on the highway in the Wind River Canyon . The rock was removed from the roadway. 

8:51 p.m. Report of a sexual assault involving a victim and suspect from Sheridan County. The incident occurred in Hot Springs County. The case is pending with no further information to be released and is being handled by Sheridan County’s Sheriff’s Office.

3:13 p.m. Report of animal abuse involving a dog. The investigation is pending.

Wednesday, Sept. 6 

11:09 a.m. Report of a property owner who sold a rental house while the tenants were out of town and the new owners disposed of the renters property. The matter is civil in nature. 

2 p.m. Report of a harassment complaint between two neighbors.

3:27 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department. Thursday, Sept. 7

4:04 p.m. Report of threatening behavior between two neighbors in an apartment.

4:31 p.m. Citizen assist involving a mother who asked for help with her son.

Friday, Sept. 8

10:58 p.m. Report of a car versus deer strike on Sprowl Road and Highway 20 North. There were no injuries.

Saturday, Sept. 9

2:13 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

Sunday, Sept. 10

12:53 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of goats on the highway. This is an ongoing issue. There are pending charges for the goat owner for failing to fence in goats. 

3:18 p.m. Report of a female juvenile who ran away and jumped in the river. The female was rescued.

Monday, Sept. 4

12:24 p.m. Report of property damage in the 700 block of Shoshoni Street involving a motorcycle and broken watch.

2:10 p.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office.

Tuesday, Sept. 5

12:25 p.m. Report of a male who had a medical emergency involving drug use and was transported to the hospital. 

8:02 p.m. A white Suzuki passenger vehicle was marked for 5 days for abandonment in the 1300 block of Canyon Hills Road. 

Wednesday, Sept. 6 

3:27 p.m. Collin William McCormick, 34, was arrested for alleged two counts of battery, simple assault, interference with a peace officer, and use of a controlled substance, Schedule I-III. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Canyon Hills Road.

5:49 p.m. Welfare check for a male juvenile with his mother. They were okay.

9:38 p.m. Report of a citizen dispute in the 1200 block of Canyon Hills Road.

Thursday, Sept. 7

8:18 a.m. Report of a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of the high school. 

10:08 a.m. A 16-year-old female juvenile was cited for possession of marijuana. Friday, Sept. 8

11:14 a.m. Report of a hospital transport for a female suicidal subject.

1:56 p.m. Report of a 56-year-old male who failed to check in for his bond conditions. 

1:57 p.m. Report of a 37-year-old male who failed to check in for his bond conditions. 

1:58 p.m. Report of a 21-year-old male who failed to check in for his bond conditions. 

7:32 p.m. Report of a hit and run on a rental car with a scratch down the side of the vehicle. The incident occurred in the 400 block of North 6th Street.

Saturday, Sept. 9

2:13 p.m. Report of a traffic crash in the 600 block of Shoshoni Street.
