Solid waste permit extended two years by DEQ

At the July 18 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, Assistant to the Mayor Jim Jeunehomme said their solid waste permit at the landfill with the DEQ has been extended two years and they should begin the landfill closing process on July 1, 2024. Mayor Estenson and the council discussed that they should start moving forward on finding concrete solutions to the landfill matter.

Jeunehomme also mentioned there was some damage to the playground swing set of the Family Park due to some trees being blown over by the wind. They are working on the clean-up and replacement of the items. 

Town Clerk/Treasurer Tracey Van Heule presented Budget Resolution #576, which made some “small bookkeeping changes” to reconcile some accounts. The council voted and passed the approval of the resolution. Van Heule also presented some Year End Assets Deletion from both the General and Enterprise funds and the financial statement. The council voted and passed the approval of both items in separate motions. 

During citizen participation in separate motions, the council voted and passed the approval of the following daily alcoholic beverage sale permits for OEB for the Ranch Rodeo on July 29 catering permit; the Double D LLC for Wyoming Discovery Days on August 5-6 and the Wyoming Discovery Days Committee for August 5-6 malt beverage permit.

Mayor Adam Estenson held a public hearing for OEB LLC bar and grill transfer from 528 Broadway to 535 Broadway. There were no public comments given. The council voted and passed the approval of the bar and grill transfer. Mayor Estenson asked for the council to activate the OEB retail license at the OEB Micro Brew. The council voted and passed the approval of the reactivation. 

Chief of Police Pat Cornwell reported that the department has been “running smooth”. Sergeant Mike Mascorro will return to patrol service soon as his healing is going well.

Cornwell added their new nuisances officer Grace Wagstaff has been very active.

Cornwell plans to meet with the town attorney to update the town’s nuisance ordinance to handle repeat offenders.
