The Hot Springs County Fair is set to kick off next week with a few events, followed by a full week of events July 31-August 4.
The theme of this year’s fair is Patchwork of Time.
Events begin with muzzle loader and trap shooting at the Bob Milek Range on Thursday, July 27 beginning at 5 p.m.
The Youth Horse Show will be on Saturday, July 29 at 8 a.m. at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds.
The Ranch Rodeo will be held later that day with Calcutta beginning at 4 p.m. See separate story on page 7 and the ad on page 6 for more details.
On Monday, July 31, the Dog Show will be held at 6 p.m.
Starting Tuesday, August 1, the fair building will be open for public viewing of the indoor exhibits. Tuesday’s hours are 4-8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday the hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The Shooting Sports archery, air rifle and air pistol competition will be held Tuesday, August 1 beginning at 1 p.m. in the MP building.
That evening, the Red Neck Relay Race will be held with the Calcutta starting at 5:30 p.m. and the event to follow. Four member teams of anyone 14 and older will compete in horseback, wheel barrow, four wheeler, etc. events. Weight ins for market animals will be Wednesday, August 2 at 7:45 a.m. followed by a full line of events.
Wednesday’s schedule includes the Cat Show at 10 a.m., Rabbit Show at 11 a.m. with the Poultry Show to follow, a 2 p.m. Goat Show and the Sheep Show at 3 p.m.
Red Dirt Master Gardeners will host an Open Class Fashion Show on Wednesday, August 2 from 1-3 p.m. For more information, contact Becky Hutson at 864-3028. Participants in the fashion show do not have to be a 4-H member. Entries must be turned in by Tuesday, August 1. Refreshments will be available.
Family Fun Nite begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 2 featuring inflatables, a hot dog eating contest, vendors and other activities.
On Thursday, August 3 the Swine Show kicks things off at 8 a.m. At 4 p.m. the Breeding Beef Show will be held with the Beef Show beginning at 6 p.m.
Be sure to take time to attend the Chili Cook Off in the MP Building at 5 p.m. to sample the delicious entries and vote for your favorite. See the ad on page 3 for more information.
The fair will wrap up on Friday, August 4 beginning with the Round Robins showman competition at 10 a.m.
At 1 p.m., the Parade of Champions will travel through town.
The evening of Friday, August 4 the Judges’ Choice Silent Auction Bake Sale will begin at 5 p.m. in the MP Building.
A Pre-sale buyers dinner will be held in the picnic area at 6 p.m. followed by the big event, the Junior Livestock Auction at 7 p.m. in the MP Building. A dance will be held at the MP building following the auction.
The Wyoming State Fair is scheduled for August 15-19 in Douglas.
